Be Careful When You Get Electrolysis In Front of Your Kids

I have a client that came to me for electrolysis on her aereolas and would bring her 5 year old daughter in the room with us. Fast forward to Thanksgiving and her entire family was at her house.

They were eating the turkey and her mother in law  said "this turkey is very HAIRY" and the daughter says, "Gram, take it to Michelle, she takes the hair off mommy's nipples!" My client nearly died.

The moral of the story: leave the kids at home.

Amazing 4 Star Review-Thank you Lisa

Before posting my review I read a few of the other reviews here, and I was shocked at how negative some of the reviews were.  Yes, Michelle's assistant can seem a bit pushy when she is telling you about their specials, but after doing my due diligence researching and trying various lasers from different places, THE SPECIALS MICHELLE OFFERS ARE AWESOME!!!  Seriously, go ahead and do the price and effectiveness research and see for yourself...OR you can save yourself a lot of time and money and just see Michelle.

Listen, Michelle and her assistant are sweet, but they're also from New York so they don't mince words.  If you are oversensitive and easily offended by nothing, then don't bother going.  If you want someone to be honest with you and who knows what they're doing, then you want to see Michelle.

Let me give it to you straight: if someone wasn't having results with what she did, they either weren't a candidate for laser hair removal period, or they didn't do the obvious and talk to her about their lack of progress.  How do I know this?  Because just out of curiosity I asked her at my most recent appointment (2 days ago) how much progress I should be seeing for my Brazilian so far, and when she answered I should be seeing some bald patches and all I had was some thinning, she upped the laser for me before I could even ask her.  I felt mild pain before she upped the laser intensity, and I was flinching in pain after she upped it.  Trust me, her laser is definitely working.  She does have a cooling tube that blows while she does the laser, so maybe that's why some people can't feel it.  But don't be fooled if you can't feel pain, the laser is definitely working its magic!

I have purchased further specials from her because she has equipment that works, she knows what she is doing, she is completely honest, very efficient (she gets you in and out quickly while also being thorough), and her laser is great for ALL AREAS of the body (whereas  the strongest lasers may work a bit faster, but are EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL - I know, because I found out the "hard way" during my due diligence phase - and let me tell you, you couldn't pay me twenty million dollars to get any sensitive parts like underarms, bikini, Brazilian, etc. done with those lasers.  I was jumping in pain at another place when I got my lower legs done for crying out loud!  I even took Tylenol before the appointments and it still didn't help with the pain!  Trust me, getting laser hair removal treatments doesn't have to hurt that much.)

I am really happy I bought that Groupon because Michelle is honest, does a great job, is super sweet and offers amazing specials that beat other places HANDS DOWN.  I haven't gone to any other laser hair removal places other than Michelle after I was done with my testing/due diligence phase.  Oh, I also read that someone mentioned scheduling problems.  But I have not had any problem with my appointments being rescheduled or anything weird like that either.  Michelle has always been there when I've had my appointments (and I've been going the entire year so far for bikini line.)  Things have been really smooth for me with using Michelle.  Hopefully this will set the record straight!  If anything else happens during subsequent visits, I'll be sure to come back and update this review!  :)

I've Been Practicing Hair Removal for Over 30 Years

Its amazing to me that I am 57 years old and that I started my own business over 30 years ago doing electrolysis in North Miami Beach and the Aventura area. Back when I started Aventura wasn't even a city! I have many third generation clients that still see me. Grandmothers, daughters, and grand daughters all having hair removed.

In many of the fifty United States there is no licensing for electrologists or Laser Hair Removal and that's how it was in Florida when I first started in the business: there was no special licensing required. Then, many years later, the state introduced licensing. Since then I went back to school to get my license as required by law. Because of my education I earned a CCE title, Certified Clinical Electrologist. Over the years I took many more hours of education and earned my title of CME, Certified Medical Electrologist. With this license I am licensed by the State of Florida to perform Laser Hair Removal.

I have a doctor that covers my Laser Hair Removal and has since I opened. I am a member of the Florida Electrolysis Council and the Society for Clinical and Medical Hair Removal. As a member of SCHMR I must complete many classroom hours of continuing education which keeps me up to date on all the latest information about hair removal and keeps my license active and current.

By law, my facility is inspected regularly by the Department of Health for sterilization, safety, and cleanliness, just like a doctor's office, and issued a facility license accordingly.

Michelle is back!

Hi Everyone!

I'm back from my trip and I am delighted to be home. I injured my knee before leaving so it was a tough week in New Jersey using a wheelchair and a cane. It gave me such insight  as to what handicapped people go through. Showering, dressing, and grooming are almost impossible.

Also people looked at me differently like there was something wrong with me. They were not looking me in the eye and looking pitifully at me. It sure opened my eyes! Well I had 2 shots of cortisone and happy to say I'm walking again, albeit painfully, but I am very grateful that I was able to work all day. I'd like to thank all my clients today for being so kind and considerate all day.

Please, Make Yourself Comfortable.

In my line of work you just never know what crazy things can happen.  A man calls me to give him a price on getting all the hair removed from his entire back. I've been around the block a few times so I know that I can't give an accurate estimate without seeing the area where hair is to be removed and taking some measurements.  Most men who are asking about laser hair removal usually look like they're wearing a sweater once they take their shirt off. But they say, "Oh, it's only a little hairy."

Later that day he shows up and I have no one waiting, so I usher him into my room and tell him to get comfortable as I go to wash my hands. I'm back in the room in about three minutes and find him laying on my table and he is completely naked. I guess he took my slogan literally, "Be Bare Everywhere."

I tried to keep my composure and asked him, "whats the story? Why are you naked?" and he says, "well you told me to make myself comfortable."

I had to throw him out. All in a days work, I guess. Now I'm afraid to use my slogan "Be Bare Everywhere."

Watch Out When You Voice Your Opinion

I had a new client who was contemplating moving to another country. She had purchased a six visit package from Groupon eleven months prior and wanted to use up her six visits that day. She had a whole year to use it and did not. So I suggested that I laser 6 areas and use up all her certificates before she leaves so her small investment is not a complete waste.

As I am doing the laser hair removal she confides that she is very nervous about moving. I agreed with her that moving is scary and I related my experience when I had a less than desirable visit to a foreign country.

At midnight her boyfriend calls me to tell me off for telling her not to move!

Note to self: don't give an opinion.

Some of us have Forgotten the Golden Rule

The other day I'm doing laser hair removal in my room and I overhear a client arguing with my manager. I stop the laser and excuse myself for a moment to see if I can resolve the issue.

"The problem," she began, "is that I have been waiting over ten minutes for my 2 o'clock appointment. And that is not acceptable."

"Hmmmmm," I said, "let's check the online schedule. Looks like your appointment is next week at 2pm. You're a week early!"

She just turned and left. No I'm sorry, no thank you, nothing. Just turned and walked out the door.

I remember something that I learned in kindergarten that a lot of people must have forgotten. They called it the "Golden Rule."

"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

Sometimes clients don't understand that they might not be a good candidate for laser hair removal. If you are sunburned or if you are too dark certain precautions must be followed when you have laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is not recommended if you have lupus or if you are pregnant.

There are hundreds of social marketing companies leaping on the bandwagon to riches. They are riding the wave spurred by the likes of Groupon and Living Social. But many of these "other" companies might not turn out to be as ethical.

How do I know? Because yours truly has already been a victim. Here's how their scam goes: They call me promising a higher percentage split than the "big boys." I agree, that in itself is enticing because I make next to nothing at these cheap prices and then have to split it with the social marketing company. Then after the ad runs I have to chase them to get my share. Sometimes unsuccessfully........

Michelle Gives Back

Laser By Michelle has been closing on Tuesdays lately because I have been volunteering at a nursing home. I really love charity work and have been doing it for many years. When I was a stay-at-home mom, before I started doing electrolysis for hair removal, before many of you were even born, I was president of ORT, not once, not twice. Seven times! ORT does great work and I was honored to be a member and leader there for so many years. But then I had to go to work.......

I have also taken in several foster children over the years, even before I started doing permanent laser hair reduction. Children are my weak spot. It just breaks my heart to see a child that has been abused or becomes a ward of the system.

This month I have decided to try something new during the month of May as an experiment. If it works good, maybe I'll keep it going. Starting May 3rd and for the whole month of May, I will be having

But I have figured out the best way to see many of my hair removal clients is to open up every Tuesday and have an Open House. No appointments, No reservations, No call-aheads will be taken. ONLY ON TUESDAYS starting May 3rd thru June.

I have been doing some research from other companies who advertise laser hair removal on Groupon, Living Social, DealOn.com , and Coup Tessa and every ad for laser hair removal states that gratuities are not included and they recommend that the gratuity should be based on the regular price of the service received. So why are clients always so surprised when asked by the office manager if they would like to add a tip?

"I don't tip because laser hair removal is a medical procedure," they say, followed by "I shouldn't have to wait, after all this isn't a medical office."

These clients are getting hundreds of dollars worth of laser hair removal for a fraction of the cost and they still complain.

You just can't win?.

It's Official! You Can Now Call Me Grandma!

It's been awhile since I have been on here. So much has happened in the last few months.

 I am now a Grandma.

Isn't she beautiful

I have 2 sons, ages 34 and 22, so I never had the pleasure of buying girlie things and now I am making up for all those years of raising boys. It's soooo much fun! I have become a giant fan of Zulilly. They have tons of great items for Moms and babies.

Dalia stands up by herself, eats cookies, and puts her arms out for me to hold her and after grannie holds her for a few minutes she doesn't want to leave. She has the longest black eyelashes and the deepest blue eyes. I think she is the most beautiful baby in the world!
